Serzh Sargsyan received His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II
President Serzh Sargsyan received today His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II.
The President welcomed the visit of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church headed by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and expressed hope that it will further strengthen brotherly relations between the Armenian Apostolic Church and Russian Orthodox Church. The President of Armenia praised efforts of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia aimed at enrooting morality and spiritual values in the society. According to Serzh Sargsyan, the entire life and work of Patriarch Kirill are a very good example of serving the motherland and the Russian Orthodox Church.
By the decree of President Serzh Sargsyan, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia (Vladimir Mikhailovich Gundyaev) was awarded with the Saint Mesrop Mashtots medal for deepening traditionally friendly relations between the Armenian and Russian peoples, strengthening relations between the Saint Armenian Apostolic Church and Russian Orthodox Church, significant contribution to the preservation and development of spiritual values. The President of Armenia handed the award to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill during the meeting.
The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church noted that he was greatly pleased to visit the oldest cradle of Christianity – Armenia, which he has visited before. He said that it was no accident that the pacific conference is taking place in Armenia, because His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II is one of the co-founders of the CIS Interfaith Council, who is bringing active participation to the negotiations, and noted also the impressive role that the Armenian Church has been playing in the life of the Armenian nation.
Patriarch Kirill expressed gratitude to President Serzh Sargsyan and Catholicos of All Armenians for their support in the organization of the session of the Presidium of the CIS Interfaith Council and wished God’s blessings to the hardworking Armenian people, prosperity to Armenia and success to the Armenian President in his important and responsible work.
