Meeting related to the policies implemented in the higher education and post-graduate establishments of Armenia
Today, before the commencement of the academic year, President Serzh Sargsyan invited a working meeting related to the policies implemented in the higher education and post-graduate establishments of Armenia, existing problems and avenues to address them.
The meeting was attended by the RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian, rectors of Armenia’s state universities.
Noting at the beginning of the meeting that in twenty years after our independence the educational system of our country has registered achievements as well as shortcomings, the President of Armenia proposed first to listen to the Minister’s report regarding the implementation of the reforms in this area, priorities and problems and afterwards to exchange views on future activities. According to the President, it is important to conduct works aimed at the professional development and establishment and deepening of cooperation with the advanced and renowned educational institutions which will modify public perception regarding the educational system and the area of education in general because at the moment the perception is that the Armenian higher education establishments are not able to provide high-quality education and train specialists who will be wanted at the job market. President said, however, that that issue is open for debate and there are young people with brilliant education who are the future of our country.
After the intervention of Minister Ashotian, the President of the Council of Rectors, Rector of the Yerevan State University Aram Simonian presented the general picture of the problems existing in the area which are common for all educational institutions and which are regularly being discussed at the Council. The rectors presented also proposals related to the improvement of educational administration, financing, development of the relations with high schools, job placement of the graduates, construction through the joint efforts of new dorms, modernization of laboratories and other issues related to the area of education.
The President of Armenia tasked the Minister of Education and Science to summarize all raised issues and expeditiously present proposals aimed at their resolution.
