President Serzh Sargsyan invited a working meeting on the issues related to the judicial system
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan invited a working meeting on the issues related to the judicial system. At the meeting discussed were issues pertinent to the implementation of the decisions adopted during the previous meetings.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the RA Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunian, Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepian, Head of Police Alik Sarkissian, Chairman of the RA Court of Cassation Arman Mkrtumian, Minister of Justice Hrair Tovmassian.
Issues related to the unavoidability of the punishment were highlighted. The President of Armenia underscored that a modern legal state is tasked not only with the protection of the rights of its citizens, but also with the punishment of those who make encroachments on these rights. He said that if the unavoidability of the punishment is not, so to speak, hovering in the air it means that interests of the individual, society and the state are endangered.
“It is obvious that the best prevention is solution of crimes and unavoidability of the punishment. There are two associated issues: one is related to the solution of crimes and stages of investigation, which the operative and investigating bodies have to accomplish timely and properly, and the second issue – pronouncement and serving of a court sentence. We have problems with both issues and we will not tolerate these problems any more,” the President of Armenia said, noting that some research in that area has already been done. Results of the mentioned research were presented to the participants of the meeting by the assistant to the President Georgi Kutoyan.
After the report of the assistant to the President regarding the serving of court sentences, the Chair of the RA Court of Cassation and the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia presented the process of addressing issues discussed during the previous meetings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan gave instructions on the implementation of the tasks related to the discussed issues.
