President Serzh Sargsyan attended the official closing ceremony of the 5th Panarmenian Games
On August 21, President Serzh Sargsyan attended the official closing ceremony of the 5th Panarmenian Games which took place at the Liberty Square.
In his welcoming remarks addressed to the participants of the Games, President Serzh Sargsyan said, “I congratulate us all with the exclusive organization of this magnificent event. I congratulate all winners although I am confident that there can be no losers in these sporting events because we have all gathered in our common capital Yerevan not only to compete but also to get new acquaintances and new friends. While we live in different corners of the world, in different places, we all have one great thing in common – we are all Armenians.”
The President of Armenia noted that he was delighted by the fact that many of the participants expressed desire that the Panarmenian Games were conducted not every four years but in a shorter interval and said, “I wish you all nice trip. I want you all to take a little of your Motherland’s warmth with you and I want you to cherish memories of these days until you come back again. Be assured that all and every one of you are welcome here. I also wish that you come to Armenia not only for the Games but use every opportunity to be here.”
At the ceremony, the President of Armenia handed special awards of the World Committee of the Panarmenian Games in five nominations. The “Best delegation” award went to Buenos Aires (Argentine), the “Fair Game” award went to Urmia (Iran), the award for “Athletic spirit and endurance” went to Chaldir (RF), “Discovery of the 5th Panarmenian Games” award went to the delegation of Sasun, and the “Beauty of the 5th Panarmenian Games” award went to Christine Najarian (Jerusalem).
President Serzh Sargsyan was also present at the concert dedicated to the closing of the 5th Panarmenian Games.
Before the closing ceremony, President Serzh Sargsyan attended today at the Yerevan Mika athletic arena the basketball finals for men. After the game, Serzh Sargsyan handed awards to the teams of Los Angeles, Sochi and Glendale which won the gold, silver and bronze and congratulated them on their victory.
This week, the President of Armenia hold also meetings with the members of the World Committee of the 5th Panarmenian Games, heads and members of the sport delegations. At the meetings, the President of Armenia handed to the sponsors of the Games, organizers and members of the World Committee prizes and awards of the World Committee of the Panarmenian Games.
