Official visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Ukraine
President Serzh Sargsyan continues his visit to Ukraine. Last night President Victor Yanukovich gave an official dinner in the honor of the President of Armenia.
At the reception, Serzh Sargsyan once again thanked the Ukrainian side for the warm welcome and expressed satisfaction with the results of the visit. The President noted that Victor Yanukovich’s personal contribution to the elimination of the consequences of the devastating earthquake in Spitak is recalled in Armenia with appreciation. President Sargsyan said that for that very reason it was with great pleasure that he was bestowing on President Yanukovich the highest state award of Armenia – the Order of Saint Mesrop Mashtots.
By the degree of the President of Ukraine, President Serzh Sargsyan was honored with the highest state distinction of Ukraine – Prince Yaroslav the Wise Medal of First Degree. Last night, President Yanukovich handed the award to the President of Armenia.
At the official dinner, Serzh Sargsyan in his speech spoke about common values which bond the Armenian and Ukrainian peoples and about cultural heritage which makes relations between the two nations and two states even stronger. Balayan, the past, present and the future of the Armenian-Ukrainian relations are fortified by the warmth of human hearts and deep mutual respect.
Speaking about the results of his official visit, Serzh Sargsyan noted that they reiterated the reciprocal desire to raise the Armenian-Ukrainian relations to a qualitatively new level. “I am confident that this visit will allow to open new horizons, new frontiers for the Armenian-Ukrainian cooperation in economy as well as in politics, will provide new opportunities for direct people to people contacts, will reinforce our friendship and traditions of mutual respect,” President Sargsyan said in his remarks.
Today, in Kiev President Sargsyan visited the National Museum of Literature and attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition of the renowned Armenian artist Vardges Sureniants. Later, the President of Armenia visited the Kiev lavra of the Caves. Afterwards, he met with the representatives of the Armenian community of Ukraine.
Today, delegation headed by President Serzh Sargsyan will conclude its official visit to Ukraine and return to Yerevan.
