President Serzh Sargsyan, Chairman of the Council of YSU participated at the sitting of the Council
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan, Chairman of the Council of the Yerevan State University (YSU) participated at the sitting of the Council.
The agenda of the sitting included election of the YSU Rector. As reported by the Scientific Secretary of the Council, as a result of the open competition announced by the RA Ministry of Education and Science, Aram H. Simonian self-nominated himself for that position. The Acting Rector of the University, Corresponding Member of the Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of History, Professor Aram Simonian presented his vision of the development of the greatest University of Armenia and answered the questions raised by the members of the Council. After remarks made by some members of the Council on the program and candidature for the Rector’s position, the returning board, which was formed in accordance with the Council regulations, summarized the results of the election. After the secret vote, Aram Simonian was elected Rector of the YSU for a five-year term. He received 60 for and 7 votes against, and 2 ballots were declared invalid.
The Chairman of the Council, President Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the newly elected Rector and expressed confidence that in the next five years the Yerevan State University will register serious achievements.
“Our expectations are great. We want our state university to be a high-class educational establishment. It is our wish, and I, as well as the Government of Armenia, are confident that the members of the Council will do their best to achieve that goal,” said the President of Armenia.
