Today, the official ceremony of handing the Presidential Awards for 2010 took place at the Presidential Palace. President Serzh Sargsyan handed the awards and congratulated the winners, stressing that their scientific and artistic achievements, in a larger sense, are the achievements of our country and our people. In his congratulatory remarks the President of Armenia said,

“I have no doubt that the Armenian society needs these awards more that the winners themselves. Our public at large should learn about accomplishments and worthy people, first of all, through the signs of recognition. We, as a state and society, through these awards manifest and restate our standards, expectations, our system of values.

We realize that a scientist or an artist receive his or her award for one particular accomplishment; however, sometimes it takes the whole life to make that achievement. Professionally and psychologically the person is getting ready for that soar for many long and strenuous years, and goes through many moments of search, disappointment and inspiration.

Today, there are young awardees who will have many moments like this in their lives. I cordially congratulate our young nominees and would like to remind that anywhere in the world, awards to the young as a rule are perceived as awards of hope and in a sense serve as a prepay for the accomplishments which they can and will achieve in the future. From now on, you, as winners, will be under scrutiny which implies even greater responsibility. I would also like to note that I am truly happy that a long time friend of the Presidential Award, the Robert Poghossian and Sons Foundation today is represented here by its younger generation and would like to greet Robert Poghossian as a worthy successor to his senior generation.

Time constraints don’t allow me mention one by one the merits of all submitting and winning works and of their authors, however I ought to speak about works which have political significance and sounding. I am talking particularly about the works aimed at the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and those which confront its denial – activities of the scholar of internationally standing Israel Charny, Raymon Gevorkian and his scientific studies on the history of the Armenian Genocide and Argam Ayvazian and his “Lithographic Heritage of Nakhijevan” in six volumes.

Dear scholars and artists,

We are happy for your success, it makes us proud. I congratulate you once again and wish you new success. First and foremost, it’s thank to you that we are a living and a thriving nation and with your help and through your achievements we will be becoming better day by day, step by step.”
