President Serzh Sargsyan received the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek
President Serzh Sargsyan received today the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek.
The President of Armenia noted that regular contacts with the representatives of the European community and active dialogue provide positive impulses to Armenia’s policy of Eurointegration. According to the President of Armenia, in recent years Armenia’s relations with the European Union have been on the rise and the areas of cooperation encompass not only foreign, economic and trade relations, but also Armenia’s internal reformation which is aimed at promoting people’s well-being. President Sargsyan noted that Armenia is ready to carry on with the reforms on the basis of European experience and with the assistance of the EU. According to Jerzy Buzek, Europe is confident that reforms in Armenia will be successful and will become a good example for other countries which have embarked on that course.
Serzh Sargsyan underscored that commencement of the Eastern Partnership program has elevated the Armenia-EU relations to a new level and created good opportunities for cooperation with the member states. “I believe, we should try to simultaneously strengthen interparliamentary and interparty relations. We attach the utmost importance to our cooperation and relations with the European Parliament - a major structure which influences all European processes,” said President Sargsyan. The President of Armenia welcomed also the creation of Euronest – parliamentary platform for the cooperation of the EU member states and EU Eastern neighbors in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
President Sargsyan also noted that cooperation with the European Union is a priority direction in Armenia’s foreign policy. The President of the European Parliament noted that it’s a natural choice since throughout her history Armenia has always been connected to Europe. “Throughout your entire history, you’ve always been part of Europe,” said Jerzy Buzek.
