President Serzh Sargsyan received today Laszlo Kyover, Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary and his delegation. The President of Armenia expressed hope that the Speaker’s visit would contribute to the strengthening of the Armenian-Hungarian relations and, particularly, to the strengthening of the interparliamentary ties. Serzh Sargsyan noted that friendship of the two peoples dates back centuries and Armenia is interested in furthering relations with Hungary. According to the President of Armenia, after his official visit to Hungary in 2009, we anticipated the visit by the President of Hungry to our country which speaks of the efforts of the two states to invigorate bilateral relations. Considering that the economic and trade relations are not satisfactory yet, President Sargsyan stressed the importance of assisting the business circles of Armenia and Hungary in establishing active interaction by making them part of all types of official delegations.

The President of Armenia thanked the Hungarian side for consideration and benevolent attitude toward the Armenian community of Hungary, underscoring that the Armenian community may play an important role in the development of bilateral relations.

At the meeting, the parties stressed also the importance of expanding cooperation with Hungary, which is currently chairing the EU, in the framework of the Eastern Partnership program as well. The Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Laszlo Kyover on behalf of his country expressed readiness to assist Armenia in her efforts aimed at Eurointegration, passing on Hungary’s almost twenty-year long experience in that area.

The parties discussed also regional issues and highlighted the importance of the efforts directed at the upholding of regional peace, stability and security. Laszlo Kyover noted that Hungary attaches great importance to the right of people for self-determination. He also said that that many conflicts could be solved if that principle is treated with due attention and good will.
