President Sargsyan received the Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development
President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Supachai Panitchpakdi.
The President of Armenia stressed the importance of the assistance provided by the UNCTAD to the economies of developing countries as well as of the efforts of the organization towards making them more competitive and sustainable.
President Sargsyan valued assistance of the UN Conference on Trade and Development and personally of Mr. Panitchpakdi to the economy of Armenia.
The Secretary General of UNCTAD noted that his visit to Armenia was particularly pleasant for two reasons: he was the Director-General of World Trade Organization (WTO) when Armenia joined the organization and since the accession our country has accomplished considerable amount of work regarding its obligations. Supachai Panitchpakdi said that the second reason was the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Armenia's State Commission on the Protection of Economic Competition and participation in the international conference in Yerevan. At the conference presented will be the conclusions of the report on voluntary expert opinion which has been written based on the Armenian experience regarding competition law and policies.
The parties underscored that encouragement of competition creates strong basis for developing economies, which allows to streamline resources, use innovation technologies and advanced experience.
