President Sargsyan visited the newly constructed unit of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan visited the newly constructed unit of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts.
The President of Armenia toured the premise and observed interior and beatification works which are to be concluded soon. The unit is to be inaugurated in August, 2011.
The Chief Architect of the new unit, Arthur Meschian introduced to Serzh Sargsyan capacities of the new unit, which is designed according to the technical regulations of the “Matenadaran” state non-commercial organization (SNCO). It was noted that the unit is designed to conduct scientific and research work, conservation of manuscripts, storage of archive documents and library materials, restoration, digitalization, research services, organization of scientific conferences and is equipped with modern technical gear. The new unit will also have a hall with video facilities and equipped for the simultaneous translation in four languages. In the framework of the programs envisaged for Matenadaran, the All Armenian human resources benevolent Pyunik Foundation will furnish the building and purchase apparatus and equipment for the restoration and digitalization works.
President Sargsyan familiarized also with the ancient manuscripts donated to Matenadaran by Pyunik Foundation.
At the meeting, which took place after the tour, discussed were issues related to the functioning of the main building of Matenadaran. It was noted that after some divisions from the main building are moved to the new unit, the main edifice will become a museum which will allow to increase five-fold the exhibition area. It will enhance the glorification of the rich collection of Matenadaran which include scientific and cultural values of universal significance.
