President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with the members of the Public Council
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with the members of the Public Council. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian. The President of Armenia and the members of the Council discussed mainly issues related to the area of education. President Sargsyan noted that meeting in this format, i.e. when attention is being focused on one or two critical issues, were productive. Such format excludes superficial approaches and provides opportunity to discuss issues comprehensively and present proposals.
“I believe that in the first quarter of 2011 we’ll try to recap our work and to see what we’ve been able to accomplish. From my side, I’ll try to present to you how I deal in my day by day work with the issues which raise yours and the public’s concern.
We have created the Public Council to receive a feedback, to take into consideration opinions of those segments of the society which are not represented in other elected or representative bodies,” President Sargsyan said.
Before commencing discussions on the main issue, the President of the Public Council Vazgen Manukian presented briefly activities of the Council in the last months, noting that meetings were organized with the representatives of different social groups, their main concerns were put down and discussed at the Council.
Referring to the issue at hand, V. Manukian noted that education-related issues are constantly held in the focus of the Council’s attention and taking into consideration their significance the educational processes in Armenia have been identified as a separate topic for discussions. At the meeting with the President of Armenia these issues were presented by the member of the Council’s Board for education, science, culture and youth and sport issues, chairman of the working group on educational issues Eduard Ghazarian. He also presented the proposals of the Public Council which suggest to decrease the load of the pupils’ and teachers’ assignments in the framework of the schooling process, issues of education administration and management, importance of educational TV programs, technical equipment for secondary schools, as well as problems of the teachers in the mountainous and border villages.
In the course of discussion, the Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian answered all the questions raised by the participants of the meeting.
At the meeting with the President, the members of the Public Council spoke also about other issues which concern the society.
