President Sargsyan received members of the Armenian Relief Society on the occasion of the Centennial of the charity organization
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received members of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) from 26 countries, who have arrived to Yerevan on the occasion of the Centennial of the charity organization.
Welcoming and congratulating the guests on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the organization, President Sargsyan noted that a hundred years ago the idea of establishing a charitable, non-profit women’s organization probably sounded very romantic and incredible. According to the President, the secret of the ARS success is on one hand education, keenness and up-bringing of the Armenian women, and on the other – their intrinsic intelligence and devotion.
“Activities of the ARS since 1910 in different political and geographical situations are nothing short of heroic.
In social, health care, educational, orphan child care and other areas, initiatives of the ARS members, implemented and the on-going projects deserve our recognition and gratitude.
Not too many organizations in the world can boast a century long active and continuous work.
Today we have an excellent opportunity to say that we are proud of this mission of the Armenian women and impressed with their allegiance. Armenian women have a sense of civil duty, which is manifested as a common thinking and unified strength.
The ARS has shaped a coherent amalgam of national ideas, charity and benevolence which constitutes the core of its activities. Benevolence is a life style, a human type. That very type, regardless of affiliation, creates and nourishes the phenomenon of humanism, and that quality is precious for us.
I am confident that this type of organizations, and first of all the ARS, are already mature structures and greatly contribute to the growth and advancement of our state, as well as to the harmonious development of our society.
Today, in our country, where problems are still abundant, it is one of the leading organizations which implements humanitarian programs. The ARS returned to Armenia from Spyurk on a tragic occasion – the earthquake of 1988, but the return was inevitable regardless of the circumstances.
Dear members of the ARS, you always appear in the places of sorrow and pain, where assistance and compassion are wanted.
I wish that you need no more to sooth pain, I wish that your programs are related only and only to development and progress. I once again congratulate you on the Society’s jubilee and wish you great success in your patriotic work,” President Sargsyan said.
The Chairwoman of the ARS Armenian regional administration Alvard Petrossian on behalf of all members of the ARS thanked the President of Armenia for his warm reception and kind words, and stressed that the Armenian Relief Society would continue to work with the aspiration of creating dignified living conditions in our country and with great dedication to our Motherland.
