The newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to Armenia presented his credentials to President Sargsyan

Today, the newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to the Republic of Armenia Pedro Nuno Bartolo (residence in Moscow) presented his credentials to President Serzh Sargsyan.

The President of Armenia congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission.

According to Ambassador Bartolo, Portugal has great respect toward Armenia – the cradle of ancient civilization, and views her as a friendly country. He conveyed to the President of Armenia greetings from his Portuguese counterpart, noting that the participation of the President of Armenia at the NATO summit to be held in November in Lisbon is greatly looked-for.

The parties noted that the current level of the Armenian-Portuguese relations doesn’t reflect the existing potential for cooperation of the two states in different areas. They stressed the necessity to expand legal field and invigorate cooperation in the areas of tourism, trade, alternative energy, e-governance, as well as noted opportunities for experience sharing in some other areas and more active business contacts.

At the meeting the President of Armenia and Ambassador of Portugal spoke also about the activities of the Galust Gulbenkian Foundation. The President of Armenia stressed that the Foundation serves as a unique bridge in the Armenian-Portuguese relations and said that its activities in the humanitarian and cultural areas have always been greatly appreciated in Armenia.

The sides also exchanged views on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution process and Armenian-Turkish relations. The Portuguese Ambassador stressed that his country supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and negotiations conducted under its auspices.
