Dear representatives of mass media,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It’s been an important and busy day. The meeting of the members of the CSTO Council has concluded minutes ago. At the meeting, in the unofficial environment we discussed issues of mutual interest.

The main topic of our discussions was the situation in Kyrgyzstan. To be more precise, the steps undertaken by the CSTO toward the speedy stabilization of the situation and our assistance to the people of brotherly Kyrgyzstan.

At the our previous meeting on May 8 in Moscow, the leaders of the CSTO states adopted a resolution on the situation in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, in which they expressed readiness to provide Kyrgyzstan with humanitarian and other assistance for the speedy stabilization of the situation in the country.

Today, we analyzed the process of the implementation of that decision, initial results, and exchanged views on the ensuing steps. We reaffirmed our adherence to the decision adopted at the meeting in May and agreed to continue consultations on the steps aimed at the stabilization of the situation in Kyrgyzstan. In more general terms, we spoke about the necessity of creating efficient mechanisms in the framework of the CSTO for rapid response in the emergency situations. It’s not an easy task, but it is an imperative. As you know, this issue was raised by the leaders of the CSTO member at the May meeting as well. Today, we looked into the preliminary proposals which have been developed by the Secretariat of the CSTO based on the results of the previous discussions.

The exchange of views has become more substantial and thorough. Taking into consideration the situation in our region, I have also presented our perception regarding future collective actions in this area.

We have also agreed upon the concrete steps for the enhancement of cooperation in the framework of the CSTO. I am confident, that full implementation of these programs will allow to elevate our Organization to a qualitatively new level. Today’s meeting has been an important step for our countries and, in general, for the enforcement of the security structure on the territory of the CSTO countries.

As the President of the host country, I would like to thank the Heads of State for their participation in the Summit and for the constructive and in depth exchange of views.
