Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Chairman of the Armenia-France Parliamentary Friendship Group of the French Senate Serge Labauche and his delegation. The delegation comprises also Senators Odette Terrade and Philippe Dallier.

Welcoming the guests, President Sargsyan said that he recalls warmly his meetings at the French Senate last March. He said that he greatly values activities of the French-Armenian friendship group since they promote objective information about Armenia. “Your group of Armenia’s and Armenian people’s loyal friends makes a significant contribution to the deepening of the Armenian-French friendship and to Armenia’s integration in the European family. I hope that here, in Armenia you will have ample opportunities to learn about the Armenian history, culture, our problems and challenges. From our side, we will do our best to constantly uphold our people’s genial feelings for France and French people,” the President of Armenia said.

Serzh Sargsyan also expressed gratitude to France for her outstanding contribution to the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and stressed with this regard the role of Parliament.

Serge Labauche said that the process of international recognition of the Armenian genocide should be driven forward to counteract international indifference which resulted in the Rwanda genocide - another genocide of the XX century.

The parties stressed the importance of a more dynamic interaction and extended cooperation between the Armenian and French parliamentarians in European structures. Serzh Sargsyan said that the assistance of French delegates has always been perceptible in bilateral relations as well as during the international parliamentary summits.

President Sargsyan presented to Serge Labauche the recent developments and concerns in the Armenian-Turkish relations and NK peace process and answered questions of Senator Labauche and his colleagues.
