Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her delegation. Secretary Clinton has arrived to Yerevan in the framework of her visit to the countries of Eastern Europe and South Caucasus.

Welcoming the high guest, President Sargsyan said, “I am confident that the long-expected visit of the US Secretary of State to Armenia will bring its significant input to the deepening of the Armenian-American relations and will contribute to the strengthening of the atmosphere of peace and mutual trust in our region.
I would like to cordially congratulate you on the occasion of the US national holiday – Independence Day. I wish the friendly people of the United States peace, well-being and further prosperity. I would also like to express gratitude to the Government of the United States and you personally for the political, economic and technical assistance provided to the Republic of Armenia. I’d like to specifically emphasize two points: For many years the United States has been bringing its contribution to the resolution of the NK conflict. Today, the most important issue facing the Armenian nation is the resolution of the NK issue based on the principles of international law. The people of Nagorno Karabakh have the right to master their own destiny and to develop on their historical land. This is an unalienable right, and because of its implementation many people all over the world are happy. I thank you for assistance and your efforts regarding this issue. I also thank President Obama and you for your efforts in the Armenian-Turkish process of normalization. Despite the fact that the Turks were and remain unprepared to establish relations with Armenia without preconditions, it is very important for us to hear the position of the US administration on this matter. I want to underscore once again that the Republic of Armenia is deeply interested in strengthening relations with the US. We view our advanced relations with the United States as one of the essential factors for the economic and political development of our country, as well as for the strengthening of peace and stability in our region. Thank you very much and welcome.”
In her turn, Secretary Clinton said that she was pleased and honored to be in Armenia, and that it was particularly nice to be here on this day when the United States marks Independence Day. “Tomorrow is Armenia’s Constitution Day – another link between the United States of America and Armenia. Thank you very much for your kind words regarding the efforts of the US administration and President Barak Obama aimed at the resolution of the NK conflict based on the Helsinki Act principles. On my own behalf, I would like to thank you for your personal contribution to the normalization of relations between your country and Turkey. As we have discussed during our previous meetings, the US is undoubtedly interested in finding a solution for this issue. We continue to believe that the resolution of these problems is essential for the development of the region and creation of new opportunities and is in the best interest of the Armenian people. Thank you for your warm welcome for me and my delegation. I am looking forward to our next meetings,” said the US Secretary of State.

A working dinner was given in honor of the high guest at the Presidential Palace, which was followed by a press conference of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian and the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
