In the framework of his working visit to Brussels, on May 25 the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan met with the Secretary General of NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen. Discussed were issues related to Armenia-NATO cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

The parties noted with satisfaction that in the last decade considerable progress has been registered in the relations between Armenia and NATO, allowing for a continued active dialogue in the political and military areas. The implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan, NATO military exercises in Armenia, and Armenia’s extending participation in the NATO’s international peacekeeping operations were mentioned as the examples of efficient cooperation.

President Sargsyan said that Armenia would consistently continue to cooperate with the NATO allies and partner states in the areas such as fight against international terrorism, border protection and management, peacekeeping operations and others.

The President of Armenia stressed also the efficiency of the NATO assistance in the reformation of the Armenian Armed Forces.

The parties exchanged views on the current stage of the NK peace process and spoke about the suspension of the Armenian-Turkish process of normalization. The President of Armenia noted that by making preconditions and violating the pre-agreed timeframe, Turkey has exhausted her credit of a reliable negotiating partner.
