President Serzh Sargsyan received delegation headed by the President of the EBRD Thomas Mirow
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received delegation headed by the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Thomas Mirow.
The President of Armenia praised activities of the EBRD in our country and investments made in the Armenian economy and noted that thanks to those investments Armenia has been able to solve some development issues. “In recent years, our cooperation with the EBRD inspired foreign investors with certain confidence toward our country and our economy. Armenia is ready to expand this cooperation,” President Sargsyan stressed.
Thomas Mirow said that the activities of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were aimed at the modernization of the Armenian economy and the Bank focuses mainly on the private sector, on the facilitation of small and medium businesses. According to Mr. Mirow, in Armenia the EBRD has already made investments amounting to over 500 million USD, and last year, despite the ongoing global economic and financial crisis, the investments were dramatically increased.
Thomas Mirow expressed gratitude to the President of Armenia for the continuous support of the EBRD activities in Armenia.
The President of the EBRD highly praised the efforts of the Armenian President directed at the structural reforms. He also said that Armenia’s financial structure was able to withstand these difficult circumstances and prove its reliability and strength.
The President of Armenia and the President of the EBRD spoke also about Armenia’s economic priorities, the ongoing and perspective joint programs. Thomas Mirow said that the EBRD was ready to continue joint work, assist in the development of small and medium businesses and improvement of the infrastructure. The financial sector, banking system, energy, and infrastructure development were mentioned among the possible areas of cooperation.
