President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of IRI Manouchehr Mottaki
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki, who has arrived to Armenia to participate at the 9th session of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission.
President Sargsyan welcomed Minister Mottaki in our country and said that he attaches great importance to the works of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission. “You know that we attach great importance to our relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, you also know that we view Iran as a reliable partner and a pivotal state in our region. Thus, development and deepening of bilateral relations stems from our interests,” President Sargsyan said.
The President of Armenia underscored high level of the political dialogue between the two countries and importance of consultations. “I would like to stress the importance and necessity of the works conducted by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Iran. I warmly recall my visit to Iran last April and I am impressed with the meetings held there,” President Sargsyan noted.
Minister Mottaki expressed gratitude for warm reception and conveyed to President Sargsyan warm greetings from President Ahmadinejad. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran expressed satisfaction with the issues discussed and decisions adopted at the Yerevan session of the commission, which are aimed at the implementation of the political decisions previously adopted by the Presidents of the two countries.
At the meeting the two parties stressed political will to deepen friendly and multifaceted relations between Armenia and Iran, noting that friendship of the two peoples has millennia-long history and great potential for development.
The President of Armenia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran agreed that “a friend in need also shares happy times.”
President Sargsyan noted that the huge amount of works accomplished last decade, as well as energy, infrastructure and other major projects, whose feasibility is proved from the political and economic points of view, will contribute considerably to the expansion of economic and trade relations of the two countries and will serve as a new impetus for deepening the Armenian-Iranian relations. “Implementation of the planned major projects will change dramatically our economic relationship,” the President of Armenia stressed.
The parties spoke also about the Armenian initiative aimed at the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, pressing issues of regional peace and security, discussed recent developments in and prospects of the NK peace process. Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the Iranian side for the balanced position of Iran regarding the NK peace process.
