President Serzh Sargsyan received the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Tina Kaidanow

Today, the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Tina Kaidanow. At the meeting discussed were issues pertinent to the prospects of development of the Armenia-US relations, Armenia-Turkey normalization process, and regional security.

President Sargsyan welcomed Mrs. Kaidanow’s first visit to Armenia and congratulated her on her new job. Mrs. Kaidanow conveyed to the President of Armenia greetings from the US Secretary of State.

Serzh Sargsyan said that Armenia attaches great importance to her relations with the United States and is grateful to the US Government for the substantial assistance provided to our country from the first days of independence, as well as for the efforts aimed at the establishment of peace and security in the region.

The parties highlighted the importance of the progress registered in the Armenian-Turkish relations and underlined that the relations must be established without preconditions and in a sensible timeframe. Tina Kaidanow noted that the United States has expressed this position on different levels and would continue to adhere to that on the next stages of the normalization process as well.

President Sargsyan said that Armenia favors resolutions of the existing problems in a manner which would essentially facilitate the establishment of durable peace and foster development.

The two sides spoke about the prospects of expanding the Armenian-American cooperation and democratic processes in our country. Mrs. Kaidanow stressed the importance of a noticeable progress in democracy building and the recently granted general pardon, noting that in the context of democratization processes the pardon and the ensuing steps sent an important positive signal.
