President Serzh Sargsyan met with the Executive Directors of the IMF
On October 11, at the meeting of the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan with the Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund the cooperation of the Armenian Government with the IMF was assessed as excellent. The IMF officials stressed that with regard to the fulfillment of her obligations, Armenia has been displaying the highest level of performance.
Highlighting the importance of the IMF financial and advisory assistance to our country, President Sargsyan noted that the IMF has its fair share in economic advancement registered in Armenia since independence. He expressed hope that the International Monetary Fund would continue its assistance. In her turn, Armenia is ready to deepen reforms and expand cooperation.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the problems caused by the economic and financial crisis. President Sargsyan spoke about the current situation in the Armenian economy, spoke about the measures undertaken to mitigate the impact and repercussions of the crisis. Noting, that tough but necessary steps have been taken, the President of Armenia said that all possible was being done to use efficiently the available assets and financial resources.
The parties stressed the importance of the continued and consistent activities aimed at the diversification of the economy, introduction of structural reforms, and improvement of the business environment. The IMF officials assured that this financial organization is ready to continue to assist Armenia in overcoming the existing difficulties.
At the request of the guests, the President of Armenia presented also the latest developments in the Armenia-Turkey normalization process. The IMF Executive Directors noted that the organization strongly supports open borders.
