President Serzh Sargsyan received the Chairperson-in-Office of OSCE, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Mrs. Dora Bakoyannis
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Mrs. Dora Bakoyannis and her delegation.
Welcoming the high guest, the President of Armenia said that her visit was a good opportunity to learn first hand about the region’s problems, discuss issues on the OSCE-Armenia agenda as well as to exchange views on a number of topics of mutual interest.
“We attach great importance to the cooperation with the OSCE which continues to remain a factor of peace and stability in our region and a major player in the processes of democratization and protection of human rights,” the President of Armenia stressed and expressed confidence that the visit of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office would foster that cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan underlined also the importance of the fact that currently Greece, which is Armenia’s good friend, holds presidency in the Organization.
Noting that Armenia and Greece have a common historical past and long-lasting friendship, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece said that the two countries enjoy excellent mutual understanding and political cooperation. The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office hailed cooperation between the Armenian government and the OSCE Yerevan Office and the results which stem from that cooperation. According to Dora Bakoyannis, the agreement signed today with her Armenian counterpart opens new opportunities for cooperation and efficient work.
The President of Armenia praised the assistance provided by the OSCE and its Yerevan Office to the reforms conducted in different areas of our life.
The parties exchanged also views on the NK peace process and the Armenian-Turkish process of normalization of bilateral relations.
President Serzh Sargsyan said that Armenia continues to be committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict. The President of Armenia noted that through the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group the Azerbaijani side recently has been refraining from speaking about the military solution to the conflict. “Even though I believe that lately the peace process has acquired some positive momentum, I am however dissatisfied with the peace process since the Azerbaijan is trying to both distort the entire process of negotiations as well as the very essence of the conflict,” the President of Armenia said.
The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office hailed the initiative of the Armenian President aimed at the normalization of the relations with Turkey. President Sargsyan reiterated the readiness of our country to establish relations with Turkey without preconditions.
Mrs. Dora Bakoyannis praised also Armenian President’s role in pardon recently granted by the National Assembly.
After the meeting, the President of Armenia and the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office continued talks in private.
