President Serzh Sargsyan received the members of the organizational committee of the Pan-Armenian Games

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the members of the organizational committee of the Pan-Armenian Games. Next Pan-Armenian Games will be held in Armenia in August.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, President Sargsyan said he was happy to discuss a beautiful and important event such as the Pan-Armenian Games. “I am truly happy when different people talk about the Pan-Armenian Games. It means that the Games have already become an established phenomenon which has its own history,”- the President of Armenia stressed. He also expressed confidence that they would be held on a permanent basis. According to Serzh Sargsyan, the Games were initiated to serve a very important notion – “Unity through sports”. Noting, that it was a significant factor, the President expressed gratitude to all those present for their efforts and underscored that Armenia-Diaspora relations obtain substance thank to these kind of events as well.

Recalling last Pan-Armenian Games, President Sargsyan said, “It feels like a new spirit, new enthusiasm arrives to Armenia, to Yerevan and it can be sensed even on the streets. It is wonderful, that from Olympic slogans we switch to achieving also sport results. Every year competitions become more competitive, and contestants are eager to achieve sport results as well. It is in our national character: when we do something, we want to be successful. And these Games are a perfect occasion and impetus for those of our athletes, who love sport, engage in sport but are unable to make our country and our people recognizable on the international arena.”

The President of Armenia expressed readiness to listen to the proposals and wishes of the participants to the meeting. The Minister for Sport and Youth Affairs said that all the organizational issues pertaining to the Games have been resolved.

The interlocutors stressed in particular, the importance of active work for engaging larger masses into sporting activities. Serzh Sargsyan noted that during President Kocharian’s years in office great work was done in that area, sport schools have been reopened in Yerevan and in the marzes of Armenia and that that work would go on.

At the request of the compatriots from Diaspora, President Serzh Sargsyan spoke about the ongoing Armenian-Turkish political dialogue.
