President Serzh Sargsyan’s working visit to Moscow
Today, at the Presidential residence near Moscow, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who arrived to Moscow on a working visit, met with the President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Medvedev. This is the fifteenth meeting of the two Presidents after Serzh Sargsyan’s election as President of Armenia. The two Presidents noted with satisfaction the strategic partnership of the two states and high level on the political dialogue which is proved by the developing cooperation in many areas.
The Presidents of Armenia and Russia hailed the dynamics of the trade and economic relations of the two strategic partners. Despite the ongoing global economic and financial crisis, the turnover between Armenia and Russia in 2008 reached 1 066mln USD, while Russian investments in our economy came close to 2.5 billion dollars. The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan stressed that 1250 enterprises with Russian capital were functioning successfully in Armenia and that new initiatives in the trade and economic area could bring the total of Russian investments in Armenia close to 5 billion USD.
Presidents Sargsyan and Medvedev expressed also their satisfaction with the cooperation on the humanitarian issues, as well as the increasing number of contacts between the scientific and cultural communities of the two countries. At the meeting it was also mentioned that efficient cooperation in the humanitarian area and numerous events testify to strong spiritual ties between our peoples and to the promising prospects for the friendly Armenian-Russian relations. President Sargsyan spoke also about the presentation of Spartak ballet in Yerevan which will take place soon in Yerevan under the high patronage of the First Ladies of Armenia and Russia. He also highlighted the role of the Slavic University in Armenia and said that in all secondary schools of Armenia classes on the Russian language were mandatory.
During the negotiations Presidents Sargsyan and Medvedev spoke also about the NK peace process. President Serzh Sargsyan thanked President Medvedev for his efforts in the process of the peaceful resolution of the conflict and clear-cut position that the NK conflict can be resolved only through peaceful means, based on the fundamental principles of international law.
The two sides stressed also cooperation of the two countries in military, political, military-technical, energy and transportation areas.
During the Armenian-Russian high level negotiations the two sides spoke also about regional and international issues.
After the conclusion of the official talks, Presidents Sargsyan and Medvedev continued their meeting informally.
Tonight, President Serzh Sargsyan is returning to Armenia.
