President Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko

Late afternoon of March 13, President Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko who is in Armenia on official visit.

The President of Armenia welcomed the visit of his Belarus counterpart to Armenia and said that the Armenians and the people of Belarus for long years lived in the same country and after gaining independence entered the same security system, Collective Security Treaty Organization which offers a special meaning to the bilateral relations.

At the same time Serzh Sargsyan noted that there are some issues that are best resolved through the meetings on the highest level, especially now during the global financial and economic crisis when economic relations need positive signals and when both Armenia and Belarus make great efforts to mitigate the consequences of the crisis.

Alexander Lukhasheko expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and said that he arrived to a friendly state. According to President Lukhashenko, Armenia and Belarus are close partners and there is no topic closed for discussion, be it political and military, economic, financial, or any other issue.

The Presidents of the two states discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, speaking in particular about the necessity to expand trade and economic relations and work closer in international structures. In the development of the bilateral relations they also stressed the importance of the Armenian-Belarus community which, according to the Alexander Lukashenko, is totally integrated into the Belarusian society.

The Presidents of Armenia and Belarus exchanged also views on the urgent international matters.
