The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan met in Munich with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federative Republic of Germany on the margins of the 45th International Conference on Security Policy.

The meeting was conducted in a warm, constructive, and working atmosphere. The two sides discussed issues pertaining to bilateral relations. President Sargsyan and Chancellor Merkel hailed the current level of cooperation between Armenia and Germany – the trade turnover between the two states amounts to 350 million USD, and there are almost one hundred joint ventures in Armenia functioning on the German investments. President Sargsyan expressed hope that the engagement of Armenia in the European Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+) would further enhance economic cooperation between Armenia and Germany. At the meeting discussed were also international and regional issues. At the request of the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel President Serzh Sargsyan presented the current stage of the Nagorno Karabakh peace talks, and spoke about the rapid deployment force agreement signed at the CSTO Moscow meeting.

Chancellor Merkel warmly recalled her visit to Armenia in 1980s and extended the invitation to the President of Armenia to conduct an official visit to Germany.
