President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to award Lieutenant-Colonel Samvel Martirosyan
On December 15, President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to award Lieutenant-Colonel Samvel Martirosyan, deputy-commander of unit 25836 of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia with the “Medal of Valor” for his courage and allegiance.
On December 12, 2008 during the practical lesson at the unit’s shooting range involving the exercise with throwing grenades, the tutoring sergeant accidentally dropped a charged grenade which exploded. Lieutenant-Colonel Samvel Martirosyan showing personal courage shielded a soldier with his own body and thus saved his life.
Today, the President of Armenia handed the award to Lieutenant-Colonel Samvel Martirosyan. The Commander-in-Chief thanked him for his service and said, “I am happy and proud that the number of officers in our army, who are ready to provide a personal example of courage and allegiance at the crucial moments is growing. In military profession even in peaceful times the life itself is sometimes endangered.”
The President of Armenia noted as even more encouraging the fact that Lieutenant-Colonel Samvel Martirosyan endangered his own life to save that of his subordinate, a soldier. “That’s the kind of person the commander must be,” he stressed.
