Qajaran-Ararat section of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline is officially completed
Today, at the official ceremony, which took place near Ararat town, the conclusion of the construction works on the 186,3 km long Qajaran-Ararat section of the gas pipeline was announced. This section is a part of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, the construction of which was initiated by the Government of Armenia in 2004 to secure a wider energy supply base for Armenia and to establish the second technological entry line.
The symbolic ceremony of welding together the last segments of the pipeline was attended by President Serzh Sargsyan.
The implementation of this 130 million USD investment project was commenced in 2007 by the joint Armenian-Russian Hayrusgazard company. The financing of the project was conducted through the allotment of the additional shares of Hayrusgazard company to Gazprom.
The Iranian gas transported to the central regions of Armenia through the Qajaran-Ararat section of the gas pipeline will be used to produce electricity at the thermo-energy stations. The gas supplies will be paid for based on the “gas for electricity” agreement.
