Working visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to the French Republic
In the morning of November 4, in the framework of his working visit to France President Serzh Sargsyan met with the Prime Minister of France, Francois Fillon and the President of French Senate, Gerard Larcher. At the meeting discussed were issues pertaining to the further development of the friendly French-Armenian relations, deepened economic cooperation, interparliamentary interaction and invigoration of contacts, developments in the region, as well as a wide range of issues related to the Armenia-EU cooperation. In French Senate, President of Armenia signed the Book of Honorary guests.
The President of Armenia met also with the world-famous singer, Hero of the Republic of Armenia, Charles Aznavour.
In the afternoon, Serzh Sargsyan met with the President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy. This was the first meeting of Serzh Sargsyan with the President of France in his capacity as President of Armenia.
The agenda of the Presidents of Armenia and France included a wide range of issues related to the further development of the friendly French-Armenian relations, the current stage of the NK peace process, the Armenian-Turkish dialogue, recent developments in the region, and issues related to the Armenia-EU cooperation.
The Presidents of the two countries noted with satisfaction the continuous and traditionally warm and friendly relations between Armenia and France and agreed to maintain the high level contacts which will contribute to a further strengthening of the relations.
Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Nicolas Sarkozy positively assessed the increase of the trade turn over between the two countries and expressed readiness to undertake necessary steps to deepen economic cooperation.
President Sargsyan underscored the important role of France, as a Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, in the peaceful resolution of the NK conflict. The President of France expressed his support to the diplomatic efforts to solve the conflict and to the on-going Armenian-Turkish dialogue.
President Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to President Sarkozy for support provided to Armenia in receiving the status of the associated member in the International Organization of Francophonie. The two Presidents stressed the indispensable role of the Armenian-French community in strengthening the relations of the two countries.
At the conclusion of his working visit to France, the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan gave an interview to a number of the leading French mass media.
