President Serzh Sargsyan invited a meeting of the National Security Council

Today President Serzh Sargsyan invited a meeting of the National Security Council. At the meeting discussed were issues pertaining to the recent developments in the region. The Secretary of the National Security Council, Arthur Baghdassarian and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edward Nalbandian made reports.

The President of Armenia expressed concern over the situation and welcomed the presented constructive approaches aimed at the establishment of peace and security in the region. It was noted that attempts to solve this kind of problems through military means are charged with tragic consequences. President Sargsyan stressed once again that since the Russian Federation is a strategic partner of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia is a friendly state, Armenia is highly interested in a speedy and peaceful resolution of the conflict. Serzh Sargsyan reiterated Armenia’s readiness to open a humanitarian corridor and underlined that our country itself is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to the parties.

Issues facing our country in the current situation, including the issue of a complete and uninterrupted flow of goods into our country, the ongoing activities on different directions also were discussed at the meeting of the Security Council. Relevant structures were tasked with concreted assignments related to a higher efficiency in dealing with the current issues as well as related to the long-term institutional actions.

In light of the existing situation, the President of Armenia instructed to provide the citizens of the EU states on transit routes through Armenia a temporary visa-free passage.
