In response to a number of propositions coming from the condominiums of the different Yerevan neighborhoods, today President Serzh Sarkissian conducted a working meeting with the participation of the representatives of condominiums

The President of Armenia viewed the establishment of condominiums, as well as a close relation between the neighborhood administrative offices and the people, as an imperative. “It is very important that decisions adopted at the Government of City Hall levels be implemented and adopted laws enacted,” said the President of Armenia. He attached importance to the issue of self-organization of our residents, peaceful coexistence and having same objectives at the building, street, or neighborhood level. According to the President, the second important issue is the existing disregard toward our housing. He expressed concern that if the residents of an apartment building do not comprehend that they all together are the proprietors of that building, we will find ourselves in a serious trouble. President Sarkissian called for a candid discussion of this issue and noted “this is not a street or a neighborhood problem, this is our city’s, Yerevan’s problem. Without condominiums, without the understanding of their importance we will not be able to make Yerevan a more comfortable and a more attractive city.”

The President of Armenia wanted to know why this institution, which has been in existence for the last thirteen years, has not yet been recognized for its merit. He said that this commands immediate attention because “gradually not only the buildings are becoming used up and require more maintenance but also their play grounds and backyards become overcrowded. As a result children are having problems with spending time outdoors and engaging in interesting activities.” Noting that there are some suggestions on cleaning the congested backyards, reducing the number of garages and other structures, Serzh Sarkissian said at the same time that it requires our collective willingness and readiness.

During the engaging discussion participants to the meeting mentioned among the requirements for the invigoration of the condominiums their enlargement, as well as the improvement of the corresponding legal field. Representatives of condominiums welcomed the program of Serzh Sarkissian initiated back during his time as the Prime Minister, to renovate the elevators of the apartment buildings, which is underway and will be concluded by the end of this year.

Closing the meeting, the President of Armenia assured that all the suggestions will be looked into carefully and wherever possible appropriate solutions will be found. “We should encourage people to self-organize and along with the improvement of the social situation solve other problems as well,” stressed the President of Armenia.
