President Serzh Sargsyan attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Meghri hydropower station


 

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan conducted a working visit to Syunik marz.

The President of Armenia attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Meghri hydropower station. The HPS will be constructed on the border Arax River, in accordance with the interstate agreement on the construction of the hydropower stations signed between the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran and ratified by the Parliaments of the two countries. In the framework of this joint Armenian-Iranian project, the construction of the Meghri HPS is to be concluded in five years. The terms of the investment program are stipulated by the Permission Agreement signed between the RA Government and the Iranian investor.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the Meghri HPS was performed by the Co-chairs of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental joint commission, the Minister of Energy of Armenia Armen Movsissian and Minister of Energy of Iran Majid Namjoo.

After the ceremony, President Serzh Sargsyan held a meeting with the head of the Iranian delegation Majid Namjoo.

The President of Armenia welcomed the commencement of yet another project agreed at the highest level between the Presidents of Armenia and Iran – the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Meghri hydropower station. The parties expressed confidence that it will definitely further the development of the Armenian-Iranian economic relations.

The Iranian Co-chair of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental joint commission, Minister of Energy of Iran Majid Namjoo assured that engaged and active work with the RA Minister of Energy aimed at the implementation of the envisaged joint programs in the energy and other areas will continue for the benefit of the two countries and two peoples.
