President Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening of ART EXPO exhibition
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan attended the opening of the traditional ART EXPO exhibition at the Artists’ Union of Armenia, which has been initiated by the RA Ministry of Culture and is being held for the fourth time in a row. The art exhibition has become a platform for the presentation of new programs, ideas, and initiatives.
The ART EXPO 2012 will also care the mark of script, literature and written heritage, considering the fact that Yerevan was declared by UNESCO the World Book Capital 2012, and also because this year celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Armenian book-printing.
President Serzh Sargsyan left the first message in the book of inscriptions opened at the exhibition dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Armenian book-printing and naming Yerevan the World Book Capital 2012. The President of Armenia wrote, “Our capital Yerevan, which has a centuries-long history, embracing glory and memories of all our capitals of the past – Van, Armavir, Ervandashen, Artashat, Tigranakert, Vagharshapat, Dvin, Bagaran, Shirakavan, Kars and Ani, has become a symbol of the world-spread Armenian nation’s eternity and its future.
Hence, it is our sacred duty to preserve and protect the throbbing heart of our nation, making it more beautiful and prosperous by day.”
After touring the exhibition, at the “Literary Café” in the Artists’ Union the President of Armenia sat down at the tea table with the intellectuals. Later, he handed awards to the winners of the literary competition held by the State Commission on the organization of the events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Armenian book printing and entitled “The Book which changed my life” and essay competition titled “Language is the Motherland.” The competitions were held among the students and schoolchildren of Armenia.
Two students, who won the competition, received as award diplomas from the State Commission on the organization of the events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Armenian book printing and an opportunity to participate this year at a literary project abroad, while the schoolchildren, who won the competition, along with diplomas will be given the opportunity to visit the Artek international children’s camp.
