On April 9, President Serzh Sargsyan's inauguration ceremony took place at a special session of the National Assembly.

With his hand on the original Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and the oldest surviving complete manuscript – a 7th century Bible – the President took an oath of office:

"Assuming the office of the President of the Republic of Armenia I swear: to fulfill the requirements of the Constitution in an unreserved manner; to respect the fundamental human and civil rights and freedoms; to ensure the protection, independence, territorial integrity and security of the Republic to the glory of the Republic of Armenia and to the welfare of the people of the Republic of Armenia".

Then, the President of the Republic of Armenia delivered a speech.

After the official ceremony of inauguration the newly elected President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sarkissian left for the Presidential Palace.

President Serzh Sarikissian and Mrs. Rita Sarkissian were welcomed by President Robert Kocharian and Mrs. Bella Kocharian.

The two Presidents held a private meeting after which President Sarkissian and Mrs. Sarkissian bid farewell to Robert and Bella Kocharian.

On April 9, President Serzh Sargsyan accompanied by other top officials, visited Yerablur to honor the memory of heroes who sacrificed their lives for their Fatherland's freedom.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the President-elect of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sarkissian, a cocktail reception was given in the evening of April 9 at the Presidential Palace.
The reception was attended by the official delegations from different countries, representatives of the international organizations, and other guests from abroad.
