President Armen Sarkissian sent a congratulatory message to the President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al Assad on the occasion of the country’s National holiday.

Underscoring the centuries-long friendship of the Armenian and Syrian peoples, President Sarkissian noted in particular, “Compassion and empathy demonstrated by the Syrian people toward tens of thousands of Armenians who fled the Genocide is a vivid manifestation of that friendship. The Declaration by the People’s Council of Syria on the official recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide was received with gratitude by the entire Armenian nation.”
