Congratulatory message by President Serzh Sarkissian on the occation of Victory and Peace Day
Dear Veterans,
Dear Compatriots,
I congratulate you on the occasion of Victory and Peace Day.
Victory in the Great Patriotic War was an exceptional event in the life of our people. All the segments of the Armenian nation contributed to the victory serving in the armies of the allied powers, in the resistance movements, and especially serving in the Soviet army. Peace, which was achieved through the enormous sacrifice, gave our nation an opportunity not only to heal the wounds but also opened new horizons for advancement. The contemporary Armenia is the extension of the Republic which lived and moved forward thanks to the valor of those who fought in the war.
In year 1992 May 9 acquired for us a double meaning. By the liberation of Shushi the new generation has proved that it is a worthy successor of its forefathers’ glorious past. Shushi has become a symbol of the Armenians’ love for freedom, our unbendable will, and vigor.
On this festive day we recall with pain but also with pride those who put their lives on the altar of Motherland. Bright memories of our heroes will be with us forever.
Once again congratulating all of us with this double holiday, I wish us peaceful skies and deeds worthy of our historic victories.
