President Vahagn Khachaturyan sent a message of condolences on the death of Vanik Zakaryan, Academician of the RA Academy of Sciences.

“I learned with deep sorrow about the demise of Vanik Zakaryan, a prominent scientist and the Academician of the RA Academy of Sciences Vanik Zakarian.

The talented mathematician and experienced educator taught in Yerevan universities for years, educating generations of specialists, scientists and architects.

The long-time President of Armenia’s Chess Federation, and later on Honorary Vice President of FIDE Vanik Zakaryan greatly contributed to the expansion and popularization of this sport in our republic, commenting on the smart game on television for decades, making it accessible to the public.

My deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the distinguished scientist.”
