President Serzh Sargsyan sends condolence letter to German President Joachim Gauck
President Serzh Sargsyan sent a letter of sympathy to President Joachim Gauck of the Federal Republic of Germany on the demise of former German President Richard von Weizsäcker, an outstanding statesman and humanitarian. Serzh Sargsyan underscored that Richard von Weizsäcker’s death is a great loss not only for Germany, but also for the entire civilized world.
“Indeed, Richard von Weizsäcker was a bright individual and a progressive figure who with his approaches toward national and supranational moral values not only contributed to the strengthening of Germany’s international role, but also left an indelible mark on Germany’s efforts to reconcile itself to post-communist regimes and build interstate relations. Throughout his entire life, he was strongly committed to the belief that “closing your eyes to the past results in not seeing the present as well.”
The people of the independent Republic of Armenia will forever remember his name as a German President under whose tenure our countries established diplomatic relations laying down the foundation for the development Armenian-German interstate relations.
I extend my deepest sympathy to you, the friendly people of Germany and Richard von Weizsäcker’s relatives for this great loss,” reads the RA President’s condolence letter.
