President received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström

Today, President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström and her delegation.

The President of Armenia and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden discussed issues pertinent to the development of the Armenian-Swedish relation in bilateral as well as multilateral formats, possibilities of Sweden’s assistance to the reforms conducted in Armenia. They also exchanged views on the regional developments and challenges, current international issues, and the NK peace process. Serzh Sargsyan presented in detail approaches of the Armenian side regarding the process which is based on the basic principles and norm of international law.

The parties highly praised the Armenian-Swedish political dialogue which has recently acquired a noticeably more active nature. President Serzh Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that today Sweden is one of Armenia’s most important and trusted partners. In her turn, Foreign Minister Margot Wallström underscored that a good platform for furthering and deepening relations between the two friendly nations has already been established, and on behalf of her country expressed readiness to assist Armenia in carrying out reforms in the country.

The President of Armenia noted that the authorities view the comprehensive reforms conducted in Armenia as a guarantee of the country’s advancement and development and highly value assistance of the EU partners on this issue.

Speaking about the Armenia-EU cooperation, Serzh Sargsyan underscored that as a friendly state Sweden has a considerable role in strengthening the relations between Armenia and the European Union. Foreign Minister Margot Wallström assured that Armenia may continue to count of Sweden’s assistance and be assured that her delegation has arrived to Armenia as a friend of the EU Eastern Partnership and the region. The Foreign Minister of Sweden expressed view that cooperation in the mentioned format is yet another opportunity for strengthening the bilateral ties.
