The Yerevan State University Council held its end-of-the-year meeting
Today, the YSU Council held its end-of-the-year meeting which was chaired by the President of Armenia, President of the Yerevan State University Council Serzh Sargsyan.
The Rector of the University, Associated member of the Armenian Academy of Sciences Aram Simonian presented the report on the activities of the University in 2007-2008 academic year.
He said that the activities conducted at the University have been directed at the further development of the institution, enhancement of its role in internal and interstate scientific and educational field. According to Aram Simonian, in line with contemporary demands and in accordance with the international requirements for higher education, this academic year the YSU has continued to improve the process of education, introduced structural changes, developed and modernized teaching methodology, as well as expanded its scientific and research activities. According to the Rector, some improvement has been registered in the administration of education and teaching techniques, amplification of the educational programs, and improvement of their quality.
Aram Simonian noted with satisfaction that the number of students and post-graduate students, who display interest in scientific and research activities, increases each year. Among the most important events of the year the Rector of YSU mentioned the establishment of the Chair on Diaspora studies.
The members of the Council assessed and approved the report on the University’s activities in 2007-2008 academic year.
The Council approved also the report on the income and expenditure of the University in 2008. The outline of the YSU’s budget for 2009 was also adopted.
The next point on the agenda of the Council’s meeting was the fundamentals of the strategic plan of the Yerevan State University’s development for 2009-2010 and 2013-2014 academic years.
Rector Aram Simonian noted that such planning was aimed at the efficient implementation of the University’s major tasks in a long-term perspective. This strategy of creating a compound of the objectives, tasks, single tasks, identification of responsibilities and resources is created to provide for the University’s progress, good governance and producing high-class specialists.
The fundamentals of the Yerevan State University’s development for 2009-2010 and 2013-2014 academic years were also approved by the members of the Council.
