President Serzh Sargsyan presided over the sitting of the Government of Armenia
Today, President Serzh Sargsyan presided over the sitting of the Government of Armenia.
Noting, that in accordance with Article 86 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, President can invite and chair a meeting of the Government on the issues of foreign policy, defense, and national security, President Serzh Sargsyan said that it was the first time this year that he has employed this right. He proposed to start the meeting in accordance with the previously set agenda, to discuss issues related to defense area, to adjourn the meeting and then to continue with the other issues on the agenda under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
The Minister of Defense introduced the charters and the structures of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, the General Staff of the Republic of Armenia, the Material and Technical Maintenance Department of the Ministry of Defense, and the Division of Investigations of the MoD which were approved. The draft decision on the “Creation of “Staff of the Ministry of Defense” state governing body, the Material and Technical Maintenance Department and the Division of Investigations of the MoD of the Republic of Armenia” were introduced for discussions. The decision was adopted with the consideration of the voiced proposals.
Regarding the mentioned decision, President Serzh Sargsyan underlined that in the area of defense we are actually approaching the final stage of reforms. “Another couple of days and we will have instituted the Ministry of Defense, structures of the General Staff, with entirely separate functions, and our Ministry of Defense will be working in new conditions. I believe these are right decisions. We have been on this path for the last three and half years. During that time we have succeeded in accomplishing some preliminary works and I trust that these decisions will further enforce the defensibility of our country.”
During the break, the President of Armenia congratulated members of the Government with the approaching New Year and Christmas holidays and wished them all the best.
